Established in 1936, the Birmingham District Chapter is the second largest local chapter of the American Foundry Society (AFS). AFS Birmingham is committed to uphold the National AFS mission statement “to provide and promote knowledge and services that strengthen the metalcasting industry for the ultimate benefit of its customers and society”.
Through our monthly technical meetings, educational courses, scholarship opportunities, as well as social activities, foundries and foundry suppliers throughout the Southeast join together to make up the AFS Birmingham District Chapter. Strengthened by a sound history, AFS Birmingham continues to lead this nation’s fifth largest industry. Many AFS Birmingham members hold or have held leadership positions at the national level.
As we enter the 21st century, the AFS Birmingham District Chapter is addressing the opportunities and challenges facing a global economy. Safety, technology transfer, governmental & environmental concerns, and increased market share drive the Chapter’s activities. Fostering awareness of this industry’s importance, dedication to national and global issues, and providing leadership opportunities is AFS Birmingham.
